The Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich is one of the oldest and biggest universities in Germany. With more than 200 degree programs it offers a very broad range of courses. According to a 2011 ranking by Times Higher Education, LMU Munich is the highest-ranking German university and the only one among the top 50 universities worldwide. The Database Systems Group headed by Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Kriegel is one of the leading research groups in the field of information systems and data mining. According to a ranking by ACM SIGMOD, an international organization for database systems, the group is among the 10 best research groups worldwide and ranks number one in German-speaking countries.
Previous work relating to the project
With regard to the project there are competencies in the domain of “spatio-temporal databases and geo-information systems”. This becomes evident when looking at the great number of publications in this field, e.g. nine publications at the conference “International Symposium on Spatial and Temporal Databases 2011”. Here, among other topics, the group is working on new routing methods which will exceed the state of the art with the integration of multiple optimization criteria, dynamic environments and prediction uncertainty. Another important expertise exists in the field of analysis and query processing for dynamic, high-dimensional data. The group has frequently published on these topics as well.
Central activities in the project
- Methods for managing spatio-temporal objects
- Pattern recognition on spatio-temporal data
- Prediction algorithms
- Methods for analysing interconnected and uncertain databases
- Dynamic, integrated and intermodal transportation networks
