The Marquardt Group is a leading manufacturer in the field of electro-mechanical and electronic switches and switching systems for automobiles, power tools, household appliances and other industrial applications. The family enterprise located in Rietheim-Weilheim at the base of the Swabian Alb entered several new markets in 2012, confirming its role as a global innovation leader.
Previous work relating to the project
With the introduction of intelligent driver authorization systems, which provide an unprecedented anti-theft protection and can be found in vehicles from Mercedes, Maybach, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Chrysler and other renowned makes, Marquardt quickly gained reputation in the automotive sector. More than 10 million systems have already been sold to date. Marquardt set a benchmark in automobile technology with the new keyless system, which combines functionality with luxury. The electronic key, which only has to be carried along, activates the system via several electronic fields and makes it possible to unlock and start the vehicle without pushing any buttons or inserting the key into the ignition lock. Marquardt looks optimistically into the future; also because the company’s impressively innovative products contribute to the global market developments towards alternative drive technologies like electric vehicles.
In addition, possible applications of new mobility concepts in the fields of electric mobility, fleet management and carsharing are being examined. In order to set up platforms in these areas, a strategic partnership with baimos technologies gmbh was established in 2006 with the objective of using the mobile phone as a digital key ring with flexible authorization management. For this purpose a prototype has been built, allowing the testing of basic functions of a smartphone-based access and driver authorization system.
Central activities in the project
- Control units (hardware and software)
- Secure access authorization systems in the vehicles
- Access to charging infrastructure with BlueID, the digital key ring
- Communication of operating data from the vehicles and the charging infrastructure to the cloud-based fleet management
